Last night Buckingham Palace was awash with the Irish, 300 to be exact, and among them was one of our youngest musical exports One Direction’s Niall Horan. The pop singer had been invited to the reception at the British palace as part of a warm-up to the Queen’s meeting in London with Irish President Michael D. Higgins.
Other guests included music manager Louis Walsh, former Formula One team owner Eddie Irvine and professional boxer Barry McGuigan. The real star of the party it should be stated was fishmonger Pat O’Connell from Cork with whom the Queen shared some serious banter during her last visit in 2011. Of course, the Queen’s date, if you will, was husband Prince Phillip, looking as baffled as always.
