Patrick Stewart thought hiding from bailiffs was a game as a child
Stewart used to pretend hiding from bailiffs was a game in times of financial struggle as a youngster

Born in Yorkshire to a working-class family, and a violent father, Patrick Stewart didn’t have the easiest starts in life. Speaking to AARP magazine, he opened up about the way in which some of the worse times were manipulated into a game by him and his mother.

He recalled “Some of my earliest memories are of when a bill collector came to the door. My mother and I would hide behind the sofa and pretend we weren't in. I thought that was a great game.'' Even still, with all the difficulty he encountered he found a way in which to utilise the experiences for his betterment.

He stated “'I realised I could use those feelings and not only would nothing bad happen, but quite good things might happen”. Whereas others would press him to spend his money on lavish things once he found fame in acting, he retained his sense of normalcy. He added ''During the second 'Star Trek' season, I bought a new car, excitedly drove it onto the lot, and all the other cast members asked, 'What did you get?' I said, 'A Honda!' They all threw up their arms and rolled their eyes”.
