RTE presenter
Ryan Tubridy revealed his “contentment” with former Rose of Tralee,
Aoibhinn Ni Shuilleahain.
The Late Late Show host opened up about his relationship with the beauty who presents
RTE’s The Science Squad.
“She continues to amaze me because she is a tireless worker but also a particularly spectacular person. A lady actually.
"We are friends and life is good,” Tubridy said. “I think you can get the whiff of contentment off me when her name comes up and you can do with that what you will.”
He added: “I have very little to be worrying about but I don’t like to talk about Aoibhinn.” Ryan (41), who is filling in as a host for Chris Evans on BBC Radio 2 for ten weeks, also revealed he loves the fact that no one knows him in London.
“I am a ghost in London,” he said. “Even the Irish people you meet are either here so long that they don’t know you or they just don’t care. It’s very pleasant. It’s a very welcome anonymity and it is so different to home but I still love going home.” However, he rubbished reports that a permanent move to the BBC may be on the cards. “I am in negotiations to sign off on a contract to stay in RTE,” he said. “It’s always been the plan. There is no offer on the table from the Beeb.
“It’s just this thing of six to 10 weeks a year and that’s all its going to be. I don’t see that changing over the next few years. I am committed to RTE. I never considered leaving RTE, hand on heart. I think that would have been reckless.”
He admitted that 2FM has yet to step out of the shadow of the late Gerry Ryan. “I think 2FM is still struggling in a post-Gerry Ryan world,” he said. “That hasn’t settled yet and the shadow that man cast with all his brilliance has been longer than anyone could have imagined. It is a big ship and it is turning around. I think it is a work in progress and everyone needs to hold their nerve.”
