Singer Sinead O’Connor announced she was ‘a slut’ when a confused airline worker asked why all her four kids have four different surnames.

The controversial performer (45) has four kids Jake (25), Roisin (16), Shane (8) and Yeshua (5) from her first husband John Reynolds, businessman Frank Bonadio, journalist John Waters and musician Donal Lunny.

“I suppose what I have right now is a real 21st century family unit - four kids with four different dads,” she said.

“All the kids flew to Munich to meet me. The airline guy there was really confused. He asked me how come all of my children had different surnames. ‘Because I a slut’ I told him.”

Despite her failed relationships, she revealed she insists on having ‘mannies’ rather than nannies for her kids. “I have two young guys aged 27 and 27 who mind my kids at home in Bray,” she said.

“We call them ‘mannies’ and they’re brilliant. I’d never hire a woman again to look after my boys. These two guys are just fantastic with my boys.” She revealed her relationship with new husband Barry Herridge is still going strong.

“We’re still best friends and we’re still married,” she said in the new RSVP magazine. “But we’re basically just great mates. I’m not going out with anyone else or anything. I’m married to my best friend which is great, I’m not looking for anyone else. We’ll just wait and see what happens.”
