Rock fans will be gutted to hear there’s no Slane gig this year — but there may be two big shows at the castle in 2013.
Castle owner Lord Henry Mountcharles hit Facebook and Twitter yesterday morning to break the news that “there will be no Slane this year, but 2013 will be busy”.
Known as for his straight-talking, Lord Henry refused to say any more, apart from: “There is very serious interest in Slane for next year.”
The last time two Slane gigs took place in a year was in 2001, when U2 played the legendary Co Meath venue two weekends in a row.
Lord Henry added: “I never go with a show unless I feel comfortable with the act.”
It is known within the music industry that Lord Henry ultimately he makes the call on which artists play in front of his ancestral home.
Traditionally the Slane concert — which holds 80,000 music fans — is held towards the end of August and just before the new academic year begins.
