After getting rid of the entire cast of the first trilogy of movies, it looks as through this year's Age of Extinction will be the first in a new trilogy of Transformers movies, although director Michael Bay doesn't know whether or not he'll be involved with the next two movies.
Speaking in an interview with Entertainment Weekly the director spoke about plans to move the franchise forward theatrically, starting with Age of Extinction, saying:
It’s kind of like a new Transformers. We had three, the first trilogy, and this is going to be the next one. It’s the first of a new trilogy. I’m not necessarily sure that I’mdoing[the others], but that’s what it’s meant for.
As well as an all-new cast, which features Mark Wahlberg in the lead, Age of Extinction will feature major redesigns of the main robotic protagonists and antagonists, with the Dinobots making their first appearance in the series since Bay took charge.
