Marvel's Agents of SHIELD may have had a rocky start - let's be honest the first half of season 1 was terrible - but when it finally found its feet it turned into a pretty entertaining ensemble effort.
But the real surprise to come out of that series was definitely spin-off Agent Carter. Picking up the story of Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) right after the events of the first Captain America film, it stood apart with a fun period setting, a self-contained story and some standout performances from a likeable cast including Atwell and James D'Arcy.
Happily, we're going to get to see all these characters again as ABC TV has confirmed that Agents of SHIELD will be back for a third season and Agent Carter's second season is also a go.
Carter popped up with an 8 episode mini-season when SHIELD took a mid series break and it's likely to get an expanded length when it returns. SHIELD itself is ramping up to a double-episode event for the end of Season 2, set to air on the 12th of May.
It's not all good news - the rumoured spin off starring characters played by Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood has gone the way of the dodo. It would have focussed on the former couple as some kind of team in an entirely new story but it seems those in charge have decided to keep these characters right where they are - which is probably a good idea.
Given these series have only just ended, don't expect more new episodes until 2016 but do make sure to catch up before then for a fun new take on the sprawling Marvel universe.
