It's a short list this week and there's one big reason for that, or rather two, as Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice is ready to explode into cinemas. That means other movies are wisely keeping out of the way, though comedy fans will have something else to check out in the form of a sequel to a hit which we never thought would happen.
Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice
Blockbuster season starts now, and they don't come much bigger than this. The DC Cinematic Universe had a soft opening with Man of Steel but it's about to kick into high gear now, flinging us on the path towards two Justice League movies and a host of other superheroes. Before that, it's time to meet the new Batman in the form of Ben Affleck and get reacquainted with Henry Cavill's Superman before they go head to head in all out war. Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor is also on board, causing some trouble in the background. See this on the biggest screen you can find!
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2
Here's a surprise. Back in 2002 a tiny comedy film managed to score almost $400 million at the box office, making it the highest grossing rom com ever made. And almost 15 years later we're getting a sequel. There's another Greek wedding in the offing, with everyone looking a good deal older apart from Nia Vardalos through some kind of sorcery. This could be another surprise hit, especially as an alternative to the huge scale of Batman and Superman.
Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts headlines this intense drama about a soldier who has returned from war forever changed. He's suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and takes a (probably ill advised) private contract to protect the wife of a wealthy businessman. Needless to say, things get even more complicated as the story progresses in a film which has layers and twists and almost Hitchcock-style thrills.
