There's an honest to goodness Angry Birds moving coming out next week - yes based on that mobile game you thought everyone stopped playing years ago. It's launching alongside a terrific thriller that we think might be one of the best of the year in Green Room.
Yup, this is a movie based on a mobile game which had pretty much no plot. Honestly it seems like they've done an ok job of plumping up the story and giving a wider world to play in, and there are some impressive enough folks on board for voice work including Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Bill Hader, Peter Dinklage and even Sean Penn.
Everybody Wants Some!!
Director Richard Linklater follows up the massively impressive Boyhood with a more entertaining film - a college comedy set in 1980 about a house full of basketball scholarship students. It's laugh out loud funny and full of strong performances, and also has its fair share of deep thinking, silly and otherwise.
Blue Ruin director Jeremy Saulnier returns with one of the most blisteringly intense films of the year. A punk band ends up on the wrong side of everything at an isolated club owned by neo Nazis and things only get worse from there. With bone chilling tension and terrifying violence, this is a must watch. Starring Patrick Stewart, Anton Yelchin and Imogen Poots.
This Oscar nominated film from Turkey shows the lives of five orphaned young girls living in society where the practise of child brides is still alive and well. It may sound dour but but it's actually a highly entertaining drama giving us a glimpse at a world which most people know nothing about with rare style and grace and fine performances.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
Tina Fey stars in this semi-true story as a journalist who chooses to upend her life and move to Afghanistan to cover the conflict on the ground. There she gets to witness firsthand the insane life style of roving war reporters, and finds that she takes to the world instantly. Also starring Margot Robbie and Martin Freeman.
Horror folks, take note - this film comes from thd director of Wolf Creek and the producer of Paranomal Activity and The Purge series. It's based on a 'real' haunting which director Greg McLean heard about many years ago and stars Kevin Bacon and Radha Mitchell as the people looking scared.
