Marvel’s two-part Avengers: Infinity War films will be the first films to be shot entirely in the IMAX format. That’s good news if you’ve thought that Marvel’s releases could be more of a spectacle.
Up until now, IMAX has been reserved for standout sequences in some Hollywood movies. Notable films include Michael Bay’s Transformers films and Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy and Interstellar.
The directors of Infinity War, Joe and Anthony Russo are to use the new Alexa 65 2D digital camera to shoot a 15-minute sequence for Captain America: Civil War.
They will be able to get to grips with the camera and technology during this shoot. IMAX CEO Greg Foster says the Russos will be spending the “next 15 months or so” designing Avengers: Infinity War with these cameras in mind.
Captain America: Civil War is scheduled to hit cinemas on April 29th, 2016. The first part of the Infinity War saga, the first to be shot entirely in IMAX, will be released on April 27th, 2018.
