Doctor Strange is out and is already being hailed as another success for Marvel and Disney after its opening weekend bonanza in the States.
The film stars Brit Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role, who gets introduced to a world beyond his imagining when he becomes friends with a bald Tilda Swinton and get into a few scrapes with Mads Mikkelsen.
As you do.
It turns out that Cumberbatch has another role in the picture, and this one might be considered a bit of a spoiler...
YES I SAID SPOILER
Ok. So director Scott Derrickson was talking to IGN the site asked who played the voice of Dormammu - that's the giant head which figures into the finale quite a bit. It seems the character isn't listed in the credits and that's basically because Cumberbatch lends his modulated tones to the interstellar beast.
It seems he also did the facial capture, which makes a bit of sense as you could imagine in your mind that Dormammu only really conjured up a face so that his enemy would have something to chat with.
"The more I thought about it the more I liked the idea. Because no one understood Dormammu better than Benedict did. I also wrote that role to be a kind of ultra-inflated version of Strange. He is an ego run amok; he is this cosmic conqueror where everything, where literally everything in the multi-verse is about him. There's something interesting about this confrontation of this little, tiny guy who has this power of time and this monstrous conqueror who is trapped by a clever gambit. There's something about that worked well, and I didn't think anybody to interact with Benedict than he, himself."
Cumberbatch is really getting in deep with those villain roles.
Doctor Strange is out now in Ireland. It's good craic.
