Those Marvel movies have been going really well for Disney over the last few years, with hit after hit and films that rarely disappoint - especially when it comes to the continuing adventures of Captain America.
But there's another Captain on the way, and it promises to be one of the most interesting films from the franchise to date. That's because Captain Marvel would finally put a female superhero front and centre for the first time in the Marvel-verse.
Now the film currently isn't set to arrive until 2019, which means that gender imbalance isn't about to be addressed any time soon, despite how much screen time Black Widow gets, but production is gearing up, with screenwriters Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve hard at work on a script.
Now the latest whisper is about potential casting for the part of Carol Danvers - AKA Captain Marvel - and Oscar-winner Brie Larson is being mentioned in connection with the part.
She's a great actress with real screen presence who is mostly known for her dramatic roles to date in movies like Short Term 12 and Lenny Abrahamson's Room, for which she picked up the golden fella himself. It's high time she picked up a franchise role, provided that's what she wants, and Marvel would be lucky to have her on board.
However this is all just rumour right now, with Variety saying they got the word from 'sources...' As the film is currently three years away it seems pretty early to be talking so defniitively about casting, but that could also suggest that Marvel want to introduce the character in an earlier film. Avengers Infinity War Part 1 in 2018 would be a good bet if this is the case.
More as we get it.
