The Amazing Spider-Man 2 isn't in cinemas yet but there are already plans for two further entries in the recently rebooted series. And that's not all, Sony is set on making their own mini Marvel universe, with plans to expand the world via Venom and Sinister Six spin offs.
And now, the latter has a director. Cabin in the Woods helmer Drew Goddard was previously tipped for the post and has now been confirmed. The Sinister Six is a villainous team up that has included the likes of Doctor Octopus, Electro, Mysterio, Sandman, The Vulture and more in the past - and there are certainly elements in the new Spidey movie which suggests those characters will be getting some kind of introduction.
Having six baddies poses some interesting challenges - especially seeing as copyright and licensing means we won't see any of the Disney owned Marvel heroes making a cross over. Will Spidey actually be the good guy in the piece? Or are we expected to root for the villains against an even larger threat that unites them to save the world?
That second option seems more likely, but we probably won't be hearing anything more concrete for awhile. Goddard is also busy show running the TV side of the Marvel universe and we'll have to wait and see how many dollars Spidey 2 brings down first.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is in cinemas from the 16th of April 2014.
