Captain America: the Winter Soldier only just arrived in cinemas in the States but after a massive opening weekend and worldwide receipts over $300 million, its time to talk about the future.
With that in mind, Disney has just confirmed that Captain America 3 will release on May 6th 2016 - considering the usual release pattern that puts it out in late April in Ireland. This release date placesCap 3 firmly in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, debuting around 10 months after Ant-Man. Other movies have yet to be confirmed, but we should expect at least one more major flick in the canon.
Co-directing brothers Joe and Anthony Russo have also been talking a little about that next movie - which they'll also return to helm.
Some spoilers follow
If you've seen the film, it's pretty clear that there's an obvious continuing storyling for the third movie, and it concerns Captain America and an old friend from his pre icicle days. Joe Russo had this to say: "In the Marvel cone of secrecy, we won’t divulge too much, but I will say this. The movie is clearly written as a two-parter. There is a, there would seem to, the next movie would seem to require a continuation of the journey of the Winter Soldier."
So we can expect more from Sebastian Stan and his interactions with his old friend. And also a new baddie and all that guff, in a world which has changed a lot since the relatively cheery days of the original Iron Man.
