Celebrate the arrival of
Gangster Squad in cinemas this week with this clip.
Director
Ruben Fleischer made some waves with his first feature – the genre comedy
Zombieland back in 2009. He followed it up with disappointing comedy number
30 Minutes or Less in 2011, which was mostly about
Jesse Eisenberg being a dick without owning Facebook.
Fleischer will be hoping for a better response to his latest – the period crime thriller
Gangster Squad. It’s a fictionalised account of the struggle between the forces of the law and the increasingly aggressive actions of organised criminals in and around LA in the 40s and 50s, based on a book by
Paul Lieberman.
The $75 million film has attracted a hell of a cast – including
Sean Penn as big crime boss Mickey Cohen and
Josh Brolin as the cop hot on his trail. He enlists a reluctant
Ryan Gosling to form a team which can operate outside of the law and refuses to take bribes. Others on the team include
Anthony Mackie,
Giovanni Ribisi and
Michael Pena and there’s support from
Nick Nolte and the marvellous
Frank Grillo. Oh and keeping the female end up is the ubiquitous
Emma Stone, in her second screen pairing with
Gosling after
Crazy, Stupid, Love.
Today, we’ve got a clip from the film which shows
Brolin’s O’Mara trying to convince
Gosling’s Jerry Wooters to get off his drunken ass and help. Check it out.
We’ve got a bunch of other clips to come, stay tuned!
Gangster Squad is in cinemas from the 10th of January.
