Ciaran Foy, writer and director of Irish horror flick Citadel, has signed on to direct Sinister 2,the sequel to the popular 2012 horror film starring Ethan Hawke. Ciaran Foy is mostly known for directing short films, and will be his first major directorial debut as Citadel only appeared at SXSW before going straight to DVD. Writers Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill will return to write the film.
Foy signed the deal to direct the sequel with Blumhouse and Entertainment One. Production is slated to begin inJune. The director of the previous film, Scott Derrickson, was the one to announce the news on Twitter.
"The script, written by me & [C. Robert Cargill], will be directed by the talented Ciaran Foy. I will produce w/Jason Blum @blumhouse," wrote Derrickson."
Sinister was released in October 2012 to positive reviews, and grossed nearly 50 million dollars domestically on a tiny 3 million dollar budget.
