There are plenty of early reviews coming out of Cannes for completed features but one area that also gets a lot of notice every year is the film market, where producers try to make deals on projects that are still in production.

Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell

One of the titles we’re most interested in here at
Click is
Cloud Atlas. It is an ambitious films based on the frankly mind boggling novel by
David Mitchell – which knits together six narratives that not only occur in vastly different time periods but also vary hugely in style.
Cloud Atlas is practically the definition of a book that defies easy adaptation but a very early screening took place at Cannes yesterday and the reports we’ve heard are generally positive.
Co directors
Andy and
Lana Wachowski and
Tom Tykwer screened a 2 hour 44 minute cut of the film with imcomplete effects which makes the positive reactions even more interesting.
The film brings together an impressive cast including
Tom Hanks,
Hugh Grant,
Halle Berry,
Jim Broadbent,
Hugo Weaving,
SusanSarandon and
Jim Sturgess but you may not find those famous faces easy to recognise. That’s because not only will they be playing different characters across the various timelines, they’ll also possibly be appearing as different genders or races, thanks to cutting edge SFX.
The adaptation was penned by
Tykwer and the
Wachowskis and we can’t wait for some teaser footage to hit the internet.
Cloud Atlas is set for an October release date.
