Colin Farrell packed on weight for The Lobster by drinking ice cream

Colin Farrell gained 40 pounds over eight weeks for his part in The Lobster by drinking four to five pints of ice cream a day. While it sounds glorious to get to have that much ice cream, Farrell makes it sound less appealing.

“There was a sort of sadness to it. It felt sad," Farrell told The Hollywood Reporter. "I was grounded in a way and it changed me physically."

He revealed that because he gained so much weight and changed physically, it allowed him to separate himself from his character. “It created a separation from the Colin that I'm used to. But I think it did create a separation that helped me,” he revealed.

The Lobster takes place in a dystopian future where single people must find a mate within 45 days or get turned into an animal and released into the wild. It stars Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, John C. Reilly and Ben Whishaw.

The Lobster debuted at the Cannes Film Festival last week. It will be released in cinemas on October 16th.
