Rocky spin off Creed has been earnin all kinds of attention since it debuted in the States in late 2015, and it's now fresh of a Golden Globe win for supporting playing Sylvester Stallone.
That's mighty impressive for a project which could have been seen as a mere money maker, a way to shoehorn a beloved franchise into a new form for a new generation. But director Ryan Coogler had the right stuff to bring a vital new character into the mix in the form of Adonis Creed, played upcoming superstar Michael B Jordan.
The film has been a modest success at the box office, taking in almost $120 million on a $35 million budget. That's not a blockbuster by any standards but with a few territories left to open it's a decent result and with the talent involved it's enough to guarantee a sequel. Now we've got news on that second film.
MGM has confirmed that they're aiming for a November 2017 release for Creed 2, a similar release window to the first film. That date means Coogler is unlikely to return as he's being courted to direct Marvel's Black Panther movie which is going to suck up a lot of time. Still Jordan will be back, and there will be more fisticuffs.
Creed is in cinemas in Ireland on the 15th of January 2016.
