As much as we're fond of Guillermo del Toro the only real problem is that he doesn't really make enough films.
Despite more than 20 years in the business, he's only completed 8 films to date, and just three in the last 10 years. We want more del Toro, so luckily enough it seems like we're getting a taste of the pure unfiltered stuff in 2015's Crimson Peak.
It's a gothic romance thing set in a crumbling mansion ini Cumbria in the 1800's. Mia Wasikowska is the new wife of the lithe Tom Hiddleston (it was to be Emma Stone and Benedict Cumberbatch, we prefer this pairing) who moves into this ruinous house. Then things get altogether weird.
Here's the first full trailer for Crimson Peak.
I'm going to be very obvious here and say that it looks absolutely gorgeous. Del Toro decided he wanted to make the film almost entirely on sets, which meant building the actual house where a lot of the creepy action is set. I've seen some behind the scenes footage from the shoot and its a truly incredible piece of production design, courtesy of Saving Private Ryan and Braveheart design man Thomas E. Sanders. Otherwise, it looks like del Toro really wanted to make a ghost story and got the budget to do it on a glossy scale we haven't seen in a very long time.
Hopefully it can make some decent dosh at the box office and we can get grown up thrillers back into cinemas.
Crimson Peak is set to release in October 2015.
