Bob Crane was one of America's cultural icons. He rose to fame during the 1960s as the lead star of television sitcom Hogan's Heroes, which was set in a Nazi prisoner of war camp. When the show was cancelled due to plummeting ratings, Crane's career went into a similar freefall and he aligned himself with good friend John Carpenter to dabble in the adult entertainment business. Tabloid headlines and rumours plunged Crane into scandal and he was eventually murdered in a hotel room in 1978 by an unknown assailant.
