Die Antwoord accuse Suicide Squad of stealing their style

Die Antwoord accuse Suicide Squad of stealing their style

If your only interaction with Die Antwoord is that weird time when band mates Yolandi and Ninja turned up in Neill Blomkamp's Chappie then you've got a lot more to learn about the extremely loud stylings of the South African rap-rave group.

Now Yolandi Visser, real name Anri du Toit, has come out on Instagram saying that new movie Suicide Squad stole the style of Die Antwoord. This is written in a distinctly different style of English.

There's a video too of some selected photos that some a few similarities but the more interesting content comes in the text where she says that (we're assuming) director David Ayer constantly talked about Die Antwoord on set and Cara (Delevigne) and Jared (Leto) confirmed the look was constantly on the mind of the production.

We'll probably never know if that's true and it's fair to say that some of the images are familar to what appears in the film, but it also comes from a generally grungy aesthetic which is hardly unique to Die Antwoord. Director David Ayer has a habit of not knowing when to keep his mouth shut so maybe he'll take some time out to respond.
