As those of you only the most impeccable of taste will be aware, The Incredibles is not only the most underrated of Pixar's movies to date, but a very strong case could be made that it's actually the best movie the animation house has worked on to date. Okay, so that might be a little controversial given some of the quality Pixar has put out over the past two decades, but it's certainly right up there with the very best.
So, it will no doubt delight and excite you to learn that, at long last, the movie will be getting a sequel at some stage in the not-too-distant future. The news was announced by Disney's Chairman and CEO Robert A. Iger at a shareholders' meeting earlier this week, along with the confirmation of a planned third instalment in the (not quite as good) Cars series.
As of right now, there's no further information available regarding The Incredibles 2 as the project is still in very early stages, but the original's director Brad Bird has been confirmed as taking the reins once more, so fans should be in for a real treat whenever it sees the light of day. If we were to put a rough guesstimate on a timeline, we'd probably not expect to see it in theatres until 2017 at the very earliest, which would place it behind Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur (both 2015) and Finding Dory (June 2016) in Pixar's release list.
The studio has confirmed release dates for three unknown movies beyond Finding Dory as June 16th 2017, November 22 2017 and June 15 2018 - so don't be surprised to see The Incredibles 2 and Cars 3 filling a couple of those slots.
