Disney has shown off a sneak peek of
Oz: The Great and Powerful at Comic-Con, which gives viewers a basic understanding of the story. This film is designed as our first introduction to the land of Oz, the colourful characters that inhabit the world including the three witches played by
Michelle Williams,
Mila Kunis and
Rachel Weisz, and
James Franco’s wizard. The film acts as a prequel and follows the Wizard as he goes from wily trickster to noble protector of Emerald City.
Director
Sam Raimi has said that this is a different sort of project than he has taken on before. He said, “I’ve never done a family picture, but I loved the screenplay.” We are curious to see what distinctive spin he puts on the world and on the story, but the trailer does feature some familiar elements which Oz fans may expect. Oz: The Great and Powerful is scheduled for release on March 8th 2013.
