When last year's reboot of Evil Dead managed to claim almost $100m at the global box office, it seemed like a sure thing that a sequel would be in the works. However, despite the fact that writer director Fede Alvarez is in constant communication with Bruce Campbell, Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi about potential ideas, there's no set timeline for the project, and it's not expected that we'll be seeing it any time soon.
Speaking in an interview with website Shock Til You Drop, Alvarez gave some insights into the process, saying:
Sam, Bruce and Rob Tapert and I are good friends and we talk to one another often and we're always coming up with new ideas and projects. Sam is teasingArmy of Darkness 2, which he is working on the script with his brother, but at the same timeEvil Dead 2is something we definitely want to do at some point. ... It's always in the background and always in our heads. And every time I talk with Sam, we're bouncing around ideas to find what would be the perfect sequel.
As disappointing as it may be that we're not going to see Evil Dead 2 in the immediate future, the thought of an Army of Darkness sequel seeing the light of day in the near future definitely goes a long way to making up for it!
