Remember when Dan Brown's books were pretty much the biggest things around? Everyone everywhere was reading The Da Vinci Code and being more or less entertained because it was basically flimsy as hell. Then a film adaptation was announced, with an Oscar-winning director and none other than Tom Hanks in the lead role of Robert Langdon. And all this despite the fact that Hanks, even in 2006, was too old and just too... Hanks for the role.
So The Da Vinci Codecame out and was pretty bad but made a lot of money soAngels and Demons came three years later and made significantly less money despite being a bit more fun. Now, almost a decade on from the first flick (and a full 15 years since the first book was released) there's a new film on the way in the form of Inferno.
The big news today is that the cast for the upcoming adaptation has also been announced. Tom Hanks is back (of course) and he's joined by an international cast including Sidse Babett Knudsen, Omar Sy and Irrfan Khan in a film scripted by David Koepp and directed once more by Ron Howard. And there's also a major role for British actress Felicity Jones, who is having one heck of a year. Not only is she Oscar nominated for The Theory of Everything (and she might even win) but the 31-year-oldwas also recently confirmed for the lead role in the first Star Wars spin off, due for release in 2016.
We're going to be seeing a lot of Miss Jones around, best of luck to her!
Inferno is set for release in October 2016.
