Fifty Shades of Grey exploded into cinemas in February 2015 and made almost $600 million.
Naturally it was always planned to adapt all three novels in E.L. James' pretty filthy book series but all manner of things kept getting in the way, including some meddling from the author, real name Erika Mitchell, herself. This included a long search for a new director and the insistence that James' husband, Niall Leonard, write the screenplay.
So that 2016 release date was missed, with the sequel eventually filming back to back with the final chapter Fifty Shades Freed. Now Fifty Shades Darker is on track to release in February 2017 and the first teaser trailer is here.
They don't come much more teaser-y than that, with barely a glimpse of the principals. Jamie Dornan says something, and it's probably intriguing though the mix of his native Co. Down accent and some sort of American tone isn't really all that clear.
The cast includes Dakota Johnson, Dornan, Kim Basinger, Luke Grimes, Rita Ora and Hugh Dancy. James Foley eventually took the helm for the two films- he was an 80s music video guy who directed Glengarry Glen Ross and Fear.
Darker is out in Febrruary 2017.
