Despite issues behind the camera, the Fifty Shades of Grey movie was a roaring success, dragging in over $560 million around the world on a budget of $40.
Sequel talk has been on-going since before the film hit theatres and since then we've had plenty of fussing around a bigger pay day to secure the return of star Jamie Dornan and the confirmation that original director Sam Taylor-Johnson has left the production. That's no big surprise after her on-set issues with novelist E.L. James and we've also heard that the writer wanted to be more heavily involved this time around. So while we wait to find out what filmmaker is going to be getting that not-exactly-tasty job, we're also starting to hear the first casting rumours.
Obvously Dornan and leading lady Dakota Johnson will be back being naughty in front of cameras for Fifty Shades Darker but there are some significant new roles to be cast as well, especially the role ofLeila. Her character was previously in a relationship with Christian Grey and she causes problems for the new couple in the story of Fifty Shades Darker. We're now hearing that former model Cara Delevingne has been linked to the role, and with the film likely to start shooting soon an official annoucement could be on the way.
22 year old Delevingne is on the rise and this booking would see her getting serious notice in 2016 alongside a role in Suicide Squad opposite the likes of Jared Leto and Will Smith. The Brit has also appeared in Anna Karenina, The Face of an Angel and in the upcoming Pan, directed by Joe Wright and co-starring Hugh Jackman, and that's in addition to modelling work for Jason Wu, Burberry and Dolce & Gabbana.
Do you think she's a good fit for the role of Leila in Fifty Shades Darker?
Fifty Shades Darker was originally slated for a February 2016 release date but with production yet to start it's more likely to aim for a later, and more lucrative, summer 2016 slot. More news as we get it.
