We only just got done reporting on the first interview with Chronicle and Fantastic Four director Josh Trank, which seemed to be a way to help dispel rumours of a trouble production, and now a teaser trailer for the new film has dropped.
Here it is, and its probably not what you were expecting.
That was... dark.
Literally and, I presume, thematically, this is a world away from the most recent big screen outing for the heroes, which had Chris Evans enjoying the pants out of being Johnny Storm. This time around, the characters are considerably younger and pop into some experiment presided over by the gravelly-voiced Reg E. Cathey (House of Cards). Things go wrong, and they emerge with some truly fantastic powers.
Trank has said that he wanted a sci-fi approach to the new film, but also real elements of horror as the crew learn how to deal with these new powers. And there are certainly elements of that to be seen here, with the characters less than content in their new abilities.
It is, mostly, a good teaser. There's little focus on plot and no real sense of set pieces that could spoil the final product. It's early days but this is certainly a good start for the new movie, and should help to move the conversation in a more positive way.
Fantastic Four stars Miles Teller, Michael B Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Toby Kebbell. It's in cinemas from the 6th of August 2015.
