First Star Wars Spin Off Lands Godzilla Director and Release Date

If you thought Disney was doing a good job of keeping us stocked with Marvel movies, just wait and see what they've got in store for Star Wars.

J.J. Abrams is currently working on Star Wars Episode VII, with a release date in alte 2015, and now we've got new information on the first of the proposed Star Wars spin offs. It will arrive in late 2016 and Godzilla director Gareth Edwards will be at the helm.

Not Gareth Evans. Though that would be awesome!

Godzilla has just made a shedload of cash for Warner Bros and Edwards has been semi-confirmed to work on a sequel but first he'll be heading to a galaxy far, far away. Hushed whispers about the spin offs have been circulating for awhile, with the possibility of them being based around characters like Han Solo and Boba Fett. There's no word on timeline though - are we going to see a whole feature starring haggard Harrison? That would be just fine actually.

The other news is that Gary Whitta has come on board to write the script. He's new to this particular 'verse and is probably best known (to us) as the writer behind the video game version of The Walking Dead and The Book of Eli. We don't yet know how far along the script is but with the deadline looming for photography we expect he's a bit stressed right now.

Star Wars Spin Off Number 1 will release on the 16th of December 2016. More as we get it!
