Free Birds Trailer - Time Travelling Turkeys out to save their flock
Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson are the birds
What do you do in Hollywood after making one of the biggest comic book adaptation turkeys in recent memory? Continue the theme with an animated film about two actual turkeys travelling back in time to save their fellow birds from the horrors of Thanksgiving.

At least that's what Jimmy Hayward has decided to do. After the epic fail of 2010s Jonah Hex, he's tackling an utterly strange animation featuring poultry and physics defying time travel.

The birds are voiced by Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson and their adventure takes them back to the year 1621 where they team up with some tribal turkeys to go head to head with the Pilgrims.

Aaprt from getting your head around how strange the concept is here, Free Birds still looks like a strange proposition. Kids don't feel any real affection for the rather ugly birds and basing the entire thing around a holiday which only has significance in the States seems fairly short sighted, especially as foreign ticket sales begin to account for more and more of the box office take.

The fact that it comes from the writer of the second two Hangover movies and theOpen Season spin offs hardly fills me with confidence either, though the voice cast is interesting, including appearances by Dan Fogler, Amy Poehler, Colm Meaney and man of the internet GeorgeTakei.

Free Birds is set for release in November 2013.
