Frozen 2 is coming. That's all the news you really wanted, go about your day.
If you do want a little more, it was revealed during a recent Disney shareholder's call that the sequel to the $1.2 billion animated hit is in active development, again under the watchful eye of co-directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck. It's great that the central creative team is coming back for more, especially as Frozen remains the most financially successful film with a female director. The call also confirmed that Josh Gad will be back as the character Olaf - who pretty much walked away with the film on its release in late 2013.
It seems pretty clear from the language used that this annoucement is very early days - the company didn't mention a release date or any other returning cast. It's more of a way of keeping the film in public consciousness, in the same way the Frozen Fever short (appearing ahead of screenings of Cinderella) will ensure that kids and grownups all over the world keep the franchise on their minds. Considering Disney was confirming release dates for Star Wars movies into 2017, we wouldn't expect a new Frozen film to appear until 2018 at the earliest, especially given how long it takes to make an animation.
More as we get it. LET IT GO!
