We've previously looked at how the entire Game of Thrones series might have as little as 17 episodes left, with shorter seasons for the rest of the run over the next couple of years. And it seems one way HBO is combatting that is by extending the running time of episodes.
To that end, season six episode nine will run for a full 60 minutes when it airs next weekend. That's almost 10 minutes longer than the average running time, and it's sure to contain plenty of good stuff as the second last ep usually involves a lot of killing.
Happily, the last episode is also longer, and it will be the longest in the entire run of Game of Thrones at a lengthy 69 minutes. That's not far off a full feature length now, and with the scale the show is capable of you might as well view it as a full movie experience.
This bodes well for seasons seven and eight to have epic running times, and pack in all the battles and murders and betrayals and random nudity audiences have been enjoying for the last six years.
Game of Thrones airs on Sky Atlantic on Monday evenings.
