A new version of Godzilla is a thing to be a little bit afraid of - especially after the glossy ridicuolousness of Roland Emmerich's 90s effort. But the more we see of the new version from director Gareth Edwards, the better it looks.
The appeal definitely starts with that great cast, led by Bryan Cranston on top form as a scientist who really wants to believe that a terrible accident wasn't his fault. And the answer he finds might send us back to the stone age. There's also Elizabeth Olsen, Sally Hawkins, Ken Watanabe and David Strathairn. Let's hope Aaron Taylor-Johnson doesn't muck everything up.
Then there's director Gareth Edwards who only previously made the microbudget Monsters and was seriously intimidated by the scale of his second film, instead choosing to shoot it like an intimate drama. Which just so happens to feature a massive lizard.

Godzilla is in cinemas from the 16th of May 2014.
