In case you haven't heard, I'm a massive fan of Laika.
They're the folks behind stop motion movies Coraline, ParaNorman and The Boxtrolls, proponents of a dying art which showcases incredible creativity in every tiny movement of the detailed models. So I'm very excited by the news that I could actually own a piece of that magic!
Laika is contributing over 250 items to an auction in February 2015, including models, props and more from their three feature films to date. Only a couple of items have been revealed as yet but they include the chilling Other Mother from Coraline and crazy contraptions from The Boxtrolls. But my personal favourite has to be ParaNorman, and I've got my eye on something I'm definitely not going to be able to afford...
It's all going to happen through Heritage Auctionson the 12th of February, with more items being previewed on the official page and bidding tentatively expected to start on the 23rd of January 2015. You'll be able to bid online, though its worth registering with the site ahead of time and getting to grips with the system so you don't miss out on something important on the big day.
Some of the proceeds of the auction will go to The Art of Elysium which benefits critically ill children. And if you don't have the cash for a bid, selected items will be available for viewing at these locations in January and early February.
- Dallas, TX: January 27-29 at Heritage Auctions (3500 Maple Ave.)
- New York, NY: February 3-5 at Heritage Auctions Park Avenue (445 Park Ave.)
- Beverly Hills, CA: February 9-12 at Heritage Auctions Beverly Hills (9478 West Olympic Ave.)
So get ready to bid on great Laika models on the 12th of February 2015!
