Back in 2010, Irish filmmaker Ken Wardrop released His & Hers, a startling documentary which took in the lives of Irish women from infancy to extreme old age. It's easily one of the finest domestic films to be released in the last decade, with warmth and heart and relevance to every person living today.
It has been a long wait for the followup, with Wardrop originally planning a move to drama with a film called Probable Parent. That project may still come to pass but before that we've got Mom and Me. Here's the trailer.
The hook this time is interviews with men from Oklahoma, recently voted the manliest state in the USA, as they talk about their mothers. From that, Wardrop spins tales of love, warmth and gratitude and hardship, emotional battles and pain. It's no doubt destined to be another classic documentary.
To celebrate the release, Wardrop will be coming to the IFI in Dublin for a Q&A on Friday the 15thof July at 6.30pm. A selection of his short films will also be shown on the 13th of July at 6.30pm.
Mom and Me is out in Ireland on the 15th of July, 2016.
