Irish Made Showrunners Doc Getting an October Release Premier Set for Stranger Than Fiction

We've had our eye on Showrunners for a couple of years now, ever since it went through a successful Kickstarter in December of 2012.

The documentary from Irish director Des Doyle set out to interview some of the biggest names in television - the so-called Showrunners who take on and oversee an entire series, including writing and production.

It's a huge job and as TV has become more and more of a coveted medium its become increasingly important not only to keeping the coherence of a show across years but also representing the personality of the show to the world at large. Showrunners are often outspoken and visible advocates across all kinds of media.

For the doc, Doyle and his crew managed to get incredible access to some truly famous sorts, including:

Joss Whedon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer/Firefly), J.J. Abrams (LOST, Alias), Kurt Sutter (Sons Of Anarchy), Damon Lindelof (LOST, The Leftovers), Ronald D.Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Outlander), Bill Prady (The Big Bang Theory), Jane Espenson (Once Upon A Time, Husbands), Jonathan Nolan (Person Of Interest), Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire), Robert & Michelle King (The Good Wife), J.H. Wyman (Fringe, Almost Human), Hart Hanson (Bones), Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus) Shawn Ryan (The Shield) Matthew Carnahan (House of Lies) and many more.

The doc looks really fascinating and interest in these kinds of shows and these creative people has just gone up in recent years, especially with the involvement of huge names like Joss Whedon, Damon Lindleof and Steven S. DeKnight.
The film has been in development for a long time but its finally getting before audiences in Ireland. The local premiere will take place on Sunday the 28th of September as the closing film of the IFI's Stranger Than Fiction festival 2014. A limited cinema release follows on 17th and it'll hit VOD on the 31st of October.
That's a lot of different ways to see the film and we're hoping to get the chance to catch up with the director in the next few weeks.
Showrunners is at Stranger Than Fiction on September 28th and on release October 17th 2014.
