Believe what you will, but The Hollywood Reporter claims that a sequel to this month’s disappointing Green Lantern has already been given the, ahem, green light.
The fact that this $200m film has barely managed to scrape together $118.7m at the box office has us coloured sceptical, but stranger things have admittedly happened.
Sources state Warner Bros still trust in the franchise’s potential, though they admit the studio was “somewhat disappointed” with the film’s lukewarm reception. Last weekend, Green Lantern steeped 66% at the American box office, grossing a paltry $18.4million after an opening weekend of $89.3m.
In case maths isn’t your strong spot, that’s a significant decline!
Still though, the prospect of a sequel chronicling the war between the Green Lanterns and Sinestro’s fear fuelled corps sounds hella good. With but a few minor tweaks (different scripter, director, writer, cast and creative focus, etc… like I said, minor) Green Lantern 2 could very well be the space opera we were so cruelly denied this month.
And seriously if Batman Begins can follow the unspeakable festival of crap that was Batman and Robin, anything can happen!
