Let’s do a Baddie Count for Avengers: Age of Ultron
Ultron – Duh!
Ultron Mini-Clones – The Avengers are gonna need some fodder…
Baron Von Strucker – Winter Soldier Post Credits
Scarlett Witch – Winter Soldier Post Credits
Quicksilver – Winter Soldier Post Credits
Vision – Theoretically, considering his canonical origins
Hulk – Dude’s got a temper…
That’s a lot of bad. And some of us rightly fear it could translate into Spider-Man 3 levels of bad. Thankfully, director Joss Whedon counts among us…
“I fiercely dislike the idea of just throwing in more people for the sake of doing that. But last time I had all of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes versus one British character actor, and I needed more conflict.”
With Marvel’s Phase 2 coming to a close and the Avengers sequel due in International theatres on April 24th 2015, a slight problem remains. Team Avengers has at least three members who can steamroll ANY opposition. Stark’s got his Iron Legion - recently exploded, if easily rebuilt. A full power Thor went toe to toe with an Infinity Stone energised baddie and won. And Hulk is, you know, Hulk. So how can Ultron possibly compete?
“I’m having a blast with Ultron. He’s not a creature of logic – he’s a robot who’s genuinely disturbed. We’re finding out what makes him menacing and at the same time endearing and funny and strange and unexpected, and everything a robot never is.”
Excited yet? We are, but it’s still just under an entire year away. Still, there’s always Guardians of the Galaxy to keep us contented, landing August 1st.
