Cary Fukunaga is planning to induce a fear of clowns in a younger generation with plans to remake the
Stephen King classic
It. The novel was originally converted for the screen in 1990, with
Tim Curry starring as Pennywise the clown. Fukunaga is teaming up with
Chase Palmer to convert the novel into two workable films.
The story tells the tale of a group of childhood friends who join forces to ward off an evil entity. The entity possesses the ability to shapeshift into something that each individual fears most, but is most commonly visualised as a hideous grinning clown. When the creature resurfaces, the kids are called upon to regroup again, this time as adults, even though they have no memory of the first battle.
There is plenty of work in store for Fukunaga and Palmer. Where they plan to split the story is unknown although the obvious place would be the transition from childhood to adulthood. No release date has been mentioned just yet and it will probably be quite a while before we hear more details on this project.
