Hugh Jackman, who has played Wolverine for the last 15 years, will soon hang up his claws. The actor hinted that his next appearance as the gruff X-Men character in 2017 will be his last.
He posted an image on Instagram with the distinctive claws out. He captioned it ominously with “WOLVERINE ...ONE LAST TIME.” Hopefully he will get a fitting send off in 2017’s Wolverine film.
Director James Mangold later confirmed that Jackman’s appearance in the upcoming sequel to The Wolverine will be his last. He replied to Jackman’s post with “Can't wait to make this, HJ! Been toiling quietly a while now!”
Jackman has appeared in every X-Men film, which is quite remarkable. It’s unclear if he will feature in Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse, which will be released in May 2016.
Will Wolverine be killed off? Or is this simply the end for Jackman himself? The actor has said that he would be pleased if the role was recast because “It would mean that it had become iconic." But who could fill his boots?
