James Gunn Hopes he can 'affect people' with his film about a talking racoon
Space adventurer Peter Quill becomes the object of a bounty hunt after stealing an orb coveted by a treacherous villain, but when Quill discovers the power it holds, he must find a way to rally the quartet of ragtag rivals hot on his trail to save the universe.

Originally created in 1969, the Guardians have been brought to vivid life by writer/director James Gunn. Best known for low budget flicks like Super, he’s the latest in an amazing roster of directors Marvel has chosen, including Joss Whedon and Kenneth Branagh.

Gunn had this to say about his experience of making Guardians: “I really hope we can affect people in the way that movies affected me as a kid… to experience magic, hope, a sense that family is where you find it, and there is always an opportunity to do the right thing…as well as have a great adventure!”

Roll Call

From the folks who brought you your favourite heroes - Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the Hulk – comes Guardians of the Galaxy. Here’s the crew:

Peter Quill / Star Lord (Chris Pratt) – The only human; he was space-napped as a child. He’s got guts and charm and a love of all things 80s.

Gamora (Zoe Saldana) – a deadly assassin with some serious daddy issues, she’s trying to do the right thing. At any cost.

Rocket Racoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) – a genetically engineered kind of raccoon thing. He’s angry, violent and furry and sometimes mean to his best friends.

Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) – a tree. Ish. Groot is incredibly strong but also kind and a friend to the crazy Rocket.

Drax (Dave Bautista) – committed to a quest for vengeance against big bad Ronan he’s a powerful warrior with a sensitive side.
