There's Jason Statham, popping up in another mid-budget film which was likely crafted with some state tax credits in mind and features enough famous supporting players for people to take some notice of the trailer.
Here's Wild Card.
Honestly, I think this looks pretty great. There's a real writing pedigree behind it from Goldman and Statham himself developed the project over a number of years, helping to shape it into a vehicle where he could play the main role. And as I said many moons ago with Safe and Hummingbird, I'm sure Statham has a plan for his career, subtly edging his way into more dramatic territory - hopefully to make sure he doesn't have to do the same crap as Stallone in 20 years.
His fans don't have to worry just yet, there still seems to be a pretty high kicking quotient here and director Simon West (Con Air, Expendables 2) is certainly on board for that, but I'm willing to bet Statham holds his own against the likes of Anne Heche and Sofia Vaergara. Not Stanley Tucci though, there's no one better than him.
Wild Card is in cinemas in the US from the 30th of January 2015. There's no Irish release date just yet.
