If you missed Spy last year do yourself a favour and check it out on home video. It's a properly funny comedy from Paul Feig, the director of Bridesmaids and featuring Melissa McCarthy.
The whole cast is great, including Rose Byrne and Jude Law but the real standout has to be Jason Statham. Rather than his regular winking nodding style of humour it's a full on comedy character and he earns the biggest laughs as bumbling special agent Rick Ford.
The good news is - he'll be back.
Talking to Empire, director Feig said he's not done with the world:
“That’s another world that I don’t want to walk away from. It's the first thing I did that I set up to be a possible franchise and Melissa is dying to do it. I have a story for it, and a funny idea that will kick it off that involves Statham.”
Sounds good, and considering the first film managed to pull down close to $250 million on a modest budget the studio is likely to be along for the ride. The best part is that he's going to be the same ridiculous character, according to Feig: Will he get any more self-aware in the sequel? No, god no. He’ll get less self-aware.”
