If you were alive and any kind of fan of action movies in the early 90s, you've definitely seen Kickboxer. It's the one which is composed almost entirely of montages of Jean-Claude Van Damme getting things thrown at his stomach. Also more of this than you ever needed to see...
The original film spawned a number of sequels which pretty much killed off the series, so naturally it's time for a reboot. Kickboxer: Vengeance casts Alain Moussi in the lead who witnesses his brother getting killed by Dave Batista in the ring. So then it's time to get some training, and JCVD himself is the one doing the teaching this time around.
Check out the first trailer below.
Hey it looks like a pure action film, remember those?
The world has changed since the time of the original Kickboxer, the late 80s and early 90s fostered low budget action cinema and had the potential to launch a starring career. That's unlikely to happen with this film, but it is great to see Van Damme back on the big screen, and he still looks pretty great in action.
There's already a sequel being shot which will release in 2017, where our hero takes on the world of MMA. Looks like we're going to be seeing more Kickboxing in the future.
Kickboxer Vengeance is out in September, 2016.
