Rowan Atkinson fans won’t be disappointed - the second outing for Britain’s most inept spy easily trumps his first.
This time around we meet Johnny English several years after he vanished - he’s been honing his skills in a remote region of Asia.
When his MI7 superiors hear of an attempt on the Chinese president’s life, however, English is back in action.
He has a chance to redeem himself by exposing a conspiracy that runs deep within the KGB, the CIA and even his own MI7.
Employing a host of hi-tech gadgets he uses all his skills to try to save the world.
Reborn is a refreshingly simple slapstick outing suitable for all the family.
It’s not exactly ground-breaking plot wise and uses some well worn spy spoof conceits but Atkinsons’s Mr Bean charm holds it together.
Rosamund Pike, Gillian Anderson, Dominic West and Mariella Frostrup round out the cast but it’s Atkinson’s show.
This will please staunch Mr Bean fans. Johnny English is simply another incarnation of that iconic character.
However, for those unfamiliar with Bean, or who don’t like the hapless character, it’s probably best to steer clear. ***
