Personally, I thought the teaser trailer for the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movie was pretty fun. The look is crisp and clean, there's some action on offer and the visual effects are just what you expect from a 2014 movie.
And generally speaking the fan reaction was pretty positive, except on one point - the look of the turtles. While new designs come and go with every new iteration of a piece of popular fiction, my main issue with the characters is that they look genuinely creepy - more like something out of that crappy 2008 Incredible Hulk than the heroes in a kids movie.
Fans have railed against the fact that they simply don't look like turtles any more, with one user finally taking it upon themselves to actually do something about it. Behold, a mock up of a much better looking Michelangelo, based on a still from the trailer. The original is below.
The smoother features are definitely more attractive and in keeping with the original look but its likely the redesign was to show off all the fancy facial capture tech which was implemented to keep the features of performersPete Ploszek,Alan Ritchson,Noel Fisher andJeremy Howard on screen.
While Michael Bay is being blamed for the new look of the turtles he's actually just one of the six producers on the picture, with Jonathan Liebesman taking the helm. And while his Wrath of the Titans was a disappointment, we're still big fans of 2011's Battle L.A.
Right now, blame isn't really all that useful anyway - the August release date is fast approaching meaning there's little to no time to implement sweeping design changes. But fans should still try to get their voices heard by reposting this image as much as possible in the hopes of some slightly less creepy turtles in cinemas.
Here's that full teaser.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stars Megan Fox, William Fichtner and Will Arnett and comes to cinemas on the 8th of August 2014 in the States and the 17th of October across the pond.
