Game of Thrones season 6 is over and we're going to have to wait most of a year for more violent tales from this fantastical land.
That doesn't mean the revelations are over though, especially when it comes to the final jam packed episode. Yes obviously THERE ARE SPOILERS HERE!
We finally got to hear a little more about where Jon Snow came from, with a revelation which had been long guessed by fans but has yet to appear in George R.R. Martin's books.
It seems the idea that Jon was Ned Stark's bastard was a lie told to protect him from the wrath of another. Jon was Ned's sister's child, and Lyanna is pretty much certain to have made him with some help from Rhaegar Targaryen.
He's one of the less mad of that line (apparently) and Lyanna sadly passes away in childbirth during a flashback featuring young Ned as witnessed by his son Bran who can basically time travel now. Do keep up.
Anyway for some reason the powers that be allowed us to hear some of Lyanna's final words but not others, because why just give us information for a change?
However, after checking out the scene over and over a poster on Reddit has given her thoughts on what the name might be:
"Lyanna starts by whispering "His name is", and then what follows appears to be a three syllable word that appears to start with a J. I'm not a great lip-reader, but I'm fairly certain what she says is Jaehaerys."
Poster sparkledavisjr has gone into massive and impressive detail on the name choice and the full post is well worth reading - all due credit to the work she's put in and her knowledge of the background to Songs of Ice and Fire.
Of course it's still conjecture and, more than that, we can't really figure out why this is kept a secret at all. Are we supposed to still be in suspense because people won't figure out who Jon's dad is? Or how his lineage makes upcoming events in Westeros even more complicated? We'll have to wait and see.
