Julie Andrews is teaming up with the Jim Henson Workshop to bring a new puppet show to Netflix.
That's one magical sentence we never expected to type. The 80 year old singer and actress, best known as the star of The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins, will produce and star in Julie's Greenroom - a show that will celebrate the creative arts with the help of puppets and celebrity guests.
It sounds like a whole lot of fun, and here's the trailer.
13, 30 minute episodes will debut on Netflix in early 2017 and guests will include the likes of Alec Baldwin, David Hyde Pierce, Ellie Kemper and Idina Menzel. So slightly older folks than you might think based on the target demo. Maybe the puppets are for the kids and the rest is for oldies.
Ms. Andrews commented that “this project represents the fulfilment of a long held dream to educate children about the wonder of the arts. I am thrilled to be partnering with my daughter and long-time co-author, Emma, to bring this show to life along with our co-creator, Judy Rothman-Rofė. We could not be more honoured to be working with the extraordinary Jim Henson Company. We are equally delighted to be premiering as a Netflix original production.”
This represents further inroads into Netflix becoming the main global entertainment destination, taking in audiences of all ages with exclusive content that you won't find anywhere else. Expect to hear plenty more about Julie's Greenroom in the months ahead.
