Lights Out trailer - be afraid of the dark

We've all been afraid of the dark at some point in our lives, and Lights Out is going to remind you why.

Check out the really creepy trailer.

It's a genuinely freaky idea, keying into the idea of another world lurking just beyond our perception, and an evil that we cannot escape. After all, it has to get dark sometime, and Diana will be waiting.

That said, the explanation of what the lurking force is can dilute the overall horror. It's something that movies seem to feel has to happen to justify 90 minutes of story but a little mystery is usually quite welcome.

It's not that surprising in this case though because Lights Out is based on a short by Swedish director David Sandberg who was tasked with making a feature lengthed version. He's had to come up with a plot to justify his neat mechanic and we'll have to wait and see if it feels overly stretched on the big screen.

Here's the short, which is already plenty effective.

We kind of prefer the original monster to be honest. Lights Out is in cinemas in Ireland on the 19th of August, 2016.
